25% off cotton barkcloth vintage fabric

25% off barkcloth Ludo pattern (1)

To celebrate the launch of Maven’s new Ludo capelet pattern

Barkcloth is traditionally a soft furnishing fabric popular in the mid-century. Who said you can’t use soft furnishing fabric for dressmaking? This beautifully versatile fabric works perfectly in boxy shapes. Maven’s new capelet pattern is a prime example!

Sharon is the founder of Maven patterns and an experienced pattern cutter from the fashion industry. She describes her new pattern as:

The Ludo Capelet is a modern cape for the modern maker. With a strong sculpted, silhouette and minimalist styling, consider Ludo as your blank canvas. Striking in a plain cloth, at ease with a bold print, and is the perfect base to explore surface decoration and create a unique and iconic garment to reflect your personality. I’m dreaming of her being embellished with lots of embroidery, screen printed, or with a bejewelled and heavily encrusted beaded neckline.

I visited Sharon at her studio when she was putting the final touches to her new pattern. She helped me with the delivery of the barkcloth fabric as it was coming down from Lancashire. I live in London and Sharon is halfway between us in Warwickshire. We unwrapped the vintage barkcloth together and I gifted Sharon the ‘Bermuda Special’ bamboo print to make a sample of the Ludo Caplet.

You can see how perfectly the barkcloth works with this boxy style and yet it gently slopes over the shoulder to give a wonderful flattering shape. To celebrate the launch of Maven’s new pattern I’m offering 25% off these four vintage barkcloth fabrics. Each one is sold by the metre, was £20 per metre, now £15 per metre for a limited time.

I’m not able to sell the pattern as it is only available in pdf format at the moment so please head to Maven’s website and Etsy store to purchase. Maven also have a special introductory offer for the Ludo Capelet – 25% off this weekend! No code needed / valid on Maven’s website and Etsy store for pdf download until 11.59 on Monday 18 March.

These fabrics range from 90cm to 124cm wide. Up to 2 metres is required to make the Ludo Capelet. Find the full fabric requirements here.
