Learn to Sew a Vintage Fabric Skirt in a Day

Beginners sewing workshop

7th April 2019, Bow East London, £80

Have you been inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee and want to start making your own clothes? Not sure where to start? Come along to my beginners sewing workshop. Learn to make a skirt from vintage fabric and go home with skirt you can wear and love.

An introductory one day workshop for beginner and intermediate sewers. This workshop combines the key elements of following a pattern and using a sewing machine. It is pitched at beginners and those who want to improve their dress making skills. You will leave the day with a finished skirt from vintage fabric, ready to wear. The design is a simple straight skirt with an elastic waist. Sizes are from UK6 to UK20 but I can adjust the pattern if a different size is required. The class is taught by me, Sarah Richards, click here to read about my sewing journey. It is a small class with only 4 participants giving you chance for 1:1 tuition throughout the day.

In this six hour workshop you will learn:

  • How to measure yourself and select the relevant size on the pattern
  • How to read and follow a dress pattern. Understand what the symbols mean
  • How to prepare the fabric ready for cutting
  • How to set up your sewing machine and prepare the threads
  • How to stitch straight lines and adjust stitch types
  • how to sew and finish seams and hems
  • You will take home a finished skirt to love and wear
