Make Hoop Art From Vintage Fabric

Fabric Scrap Busting

A super quick project to create colour for your home. I often find swatches of vintage fabric that I love but are too small to do anything with. Such as this vintage Liberty silk paisley swatch. Gifted to me from Simply Vintage at The Stitch Festival, I couldn’t resist all those bright colours in my favourite print. It is now hanging on my inspiration board next to my desk.

Materials

  • Swatch of fabric
  • Embroidery hoop small enough to fit inside the fabric with room to fold over the edges behind the hoop
  • Needle and Thread
  • Sharp scissors
  • Piece of cord or ribbon to hang the hoop with
Open the hoop, lay the inside hoop flat
lay the fabric flat over the hoop
Lay the outer ring on top pushing it over the inner hoop and the fabric
turn the screw to tighten the embroidery hoop so the fabric doesn’t move
Turn the hoop over and get the needle and thread ready
Scrunch the fabric over the inner hoop, sewing as you go.
Try not to stitch through to the front
Finish with a back stitch to hold in place
Thread a piece of cord or ribbon through the hole made by the screw
Job done, looks great!
