Make a Dress Workshop

Improver’s Sewing: One-Day Workshop

Sunday 6 Oct 2019 | Bow, East London

We will be making the popular ‘Stevie’ tunic dress from Tilly & The Buttons. It is their best seller and perfect for beginner and improver sewers. A simple boxy shape, the dress has no darts or inset sleeves. Making it possible to complete in one day.

This workshop is suitable for beginner sewers who have already attended one of my workshops or are comfortable using a sewing machine. The workshop combines the key elements of following a pattern and using a sewing machine. Everything is provided for you to leave the day with a finished dress made from vintage fabric.

Cost is £100 for a full day, 10am to 5pm.

Using vintage fabric is a fun way to create a sustainable dress by using pre-loved fabrics that would otherwise end up in landfill. The fabrics have all been pre-washed and will be pressed ready for the workshop. The class is taught by me, Sarah Richards. Click here to read my sewing journey. It is a small class with only 3 participants, giving you opportunity for 1:1 tuition.

Included in the price:

  • Reusable Tilly & The Buttons ‘Stevie’ pattern (dress and top) (sizes are 8 to 20, please let me know if you need an alternative size)
  • 2.5m of vintage fabric (click the above button to see the selection)
  • Button and sewing thread
  • Use of basic sewing kit and equipment
  • Lots of sewing hacks, tea, coffee and cake

During the workshop you will learn:

  • How to read and follow a simple pattern
  • How to measure yourself and select the correct size
  • How to prepare the fabric ready for cutting
  • How to stitch straight lines, pivot and adjust stitch types
  • How to hand finish and topstitch
  • You will take home a finished dress made from vintage fabric
