Cosy vintage fabrics

I always ask customers to send me photos of their makes. Each piece of fabric I sell I have an idea of what I would create with it, so I enjoy seeing how customers use the fabric they buy. I met Deborah at the Knitting & Stitching Show when she bought a vibrant orange check vintage fabric from my stand. I was blown away by Deborah’s clever use of a small piece of fabric. She used a vintage pattern, which she adjusted to her size. Beautifully lined with a contrasting fabric, doesn’t it look fantastic? It looks like and original 1960’s mini dress with an update to keep it current.

Deborah’s fabric was a unique piece of vintage fabric. I don’t have any more available but the vintage fabric below would work in a mini-dress style or perhaps a wrap over skirt? Estimated to be 100% wool it measures 150 x 320cm. Plenty to make a short or mid-length dress with.

Brushed winter fabrics

We are reaching the time of year when we want to feel cosy in our clothes. If wool is too heavy, I’ve pulled together an edit of soft brushed fabrics that are warm and soft to touch. Mixes of florals and checks, along with cotton and wool mixes.

Vintage sewing inspiration

Vintage dress patterns are fantastic for an authentic vintage look. Deborah’s pattern was from a charity shop and laughs ‘ The sizing is so different. We were all hour glass shaped with tiny waists even in the 60’s’. Unless you are a clever pattern cutter or can fit into tiny sized patterns, I recommend trying some of these modern, independent patterns
